Gare-Parc
Quimper Bretagne Occidentale , 2019 – 2024
The Quimper railway station is under renovation. The station forecourt and access are to be completely reconfigured, a footpath over the tracks is being constructed as a way to better connect the immediately surrounding neighbourhoods, green spaces and a playground will replace the carpark, which will be located elsewhere, and there will be a new bus station.
This long-awaited project, which local residents had almost given up hope would ever happen, requires significant mediation. A project of this size, which takes place over a lengthy period of time and generates a lot of noise pollution, will never please everyone. Some might find it difficult to see the point of it, and as it turns a spotlight on the neighbourhood, revealing both its qualities and dysfunctions, it generates both enthusiasm and concern.
Working with the renovation’s project leader, urban landscaping group Agence Ter, we joined with Quimper Bretagne Occidentale (Quimper Western Brittany) and its partners on the conception and implementation of an urban and cultural mediation project to inform local residents about the development, and to imagine future ways the site might be used. We brought collectif Tempête and the illustrator Baptiste Alchourroun on to work with us on this long-term project.
