Journeys & Stopovers
Vallée de la Vilaine, Rennes Métropole , 2014-2021
The Vallée de la Vilaine covers 3,500 hectares south of Rennes, with seven municipalities gathered around a river, the Vilaine. The valley is made up of agricultural land, peri-urban areas, wasteland, conservation areas, quarries and several ponds. The inhabitants of the region work in and around these different zones. Since 2015, we have been working with Agence Ter, on behalf of Rennes Métropole, on the design and implementation of a development project suitable for the scale of the valley.
The aim of the project is to promote the territory and the different aspects of its landscape as well as its human dynamics, through projects designed by Agence Ter and a series of pilot activities that we named Traversées & escales – Journeys and Stopovers. Developed along artistic lines, the pilot activities initiated the project, offering a space for co-construction with partners and actors, nourishing our research and fieldwork, and bringing the project to life. Beginning as a development study, Journeys and Stopovers has evolved into a regional project mobilizing a significant community of stakeholders.
